Professional Fire and EMS Training

Fire Academy

At Agate Fire Protection District, we are dedicated to training and retaining professional firefighters. Our hands-on training program is designed to equip our team with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond effectively to emergencies.

The fire academy is a crucial step for aspiring firefighters. It is where recruits learn the basic skills and knowledge of the craft, as well as become familiar with the physical and mental demands, and the rewards of the fire service.

Our academy is usually held annually, starting in the winter months and ending in early spring. Recruits attend the academy one evening per week and all day on Saturdays. The primary focus of the academy is to master the skills needed to successfully complete the program and become a certified firefighter.

Although the academy presents challenges, recruits gain valuable skills, a sense of accomplishment, and often form lifelong friendships. Earning your place among our ranks won’t be easy, but it will be worth it!

Our next Fire Academy begins on October 14, 2024. Classes will be held every Monday evening and all day on Saturdays.

EMS Training

Our EMS training is conducted by highly trained personnel with successful pass rates. We provide our team with the latest techniques and protocols to ensure the highest level of care for our community members in need.

This course provides limited access and is designed to prepare graduates to work as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians. The course includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills labs, and field experiences to train students to respond to a range of medical and trauma situations. After completing the program, graduates can apply to take the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification exam to become certified as a Colorado EMT.

Certifications/Certificates Received Upon Completion of Program:
CPR/BLS Certification
National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Certification*
*Certification requires for you to take an additional exam not included in the program.

Our next EMT class will begin on January 7, 2025. Classes will be held every Tuesday evening (in-person) and Wednesday evening (in-person and via Zoom) with occasional Saturday sessions for labs and skills.

The cost is $600, not including the cost of the textbook.
